Newsletter—June 2007
Greetings!
Warm days are here to stay! This issue of bigNews has some exciting information and upcoming events.
The goal of this newsletter is to provide information to assist you in continually improving your support process. Many of our stories linnk back to our blog where we look forward to hearing your comments and feedback.
Asset Upgrades in Beta!
The Asset Upgrade Phase I changes are now in beta! We are currently testing the functionality and UI. We are very excited to get this published and working in multiple environments to get everyone's feedback.
We have rescheduled the Asset Upgrade webinar for Thursday, June 7. Since this is a make-up webinar from the last one which was postponed, everyone who signed up previously will have first dibs on the seats.
Please respond in the comments section on the blog if you are interested in attending the Asset Upgrade webinar. If the first webinar fills up, we will announce another one in the blog's comments section.
Network Auditing, Your Input Needed

Jon Hernandez of Centennial Software is our guest author this month. Centennial Software offers a fantastic network auditing tool, Discovery. The bigWebApps team is looking to integrate Discovery's capabilities into bigWebDesk to improve your ability to maintain your organization's networked assets.
As part of bigWebApps' effort to continually improve your support process, here's Jon:
How much time and energy do you spend on network inventory and auditing? Are you concerned about being over or under licensed with your software applications? Centennial Discovery is a proven technology that will automate both your network inventory and software asset management efforts. As a 10 year old company, Centennial Software has over 5 million "agents" deployed with over 4500 customers. Through OEM partnerships and integrations we have become the de facto auditing tool for many organizations.
Discovery will provide you with rich asset data including:
- Hardware: machine name, manufacturer, serial number, BIOS date, processor, memory, hard disk size/space, installed adapters, network information
- Identification of file types, eg MP3s, and percentage of disk space used by file type
- Software: vendor, application name, version/patch, last used, frequency of use, licensable & unlicensable applications, product type
- Audit history and record of changes
- Current location tracking to alert administrators to movements, additions and removals
We are currently speaking with bigWebApps about integrating our solutions and we are very interested in hearing your thoughts. bigWebApps has given us the opportunity to show you Discovery via a web-based demonstration so you can see our powerful auditing capabilities. Please visit their blog to provide your input and to sign up for the webinar.
We look forward to being part of the bigWebApps Community and teaming with bigWebApps to provide the premier helpdesk support system in the industry.
Jon Hernandez
User Interface Changes Delayed

Per your request, we delayed the release of the Customer (End User) interface changes until June 1. Between that time and now, we have decided to make some minor changes to the Technician/Admin side as well. Due to these changes being added, we have changed the release date to July 1, 2007.
The changes to the Tech/Admin side are much less dramatic than the Customer side. The color palette is being updated to match the new, more eye-friendly scheme.
We look forward to hearing your comments about the changes.
Congratulations to Alachua County Schools

Alachua County School District's Eastside High School was #16 on Newsweek's Top Public High Schools List. Read on.
Top 5 Development List
Once we completely publish the Asset Upgrades Phase I changes, the top 5 development list will be as follows:
- Active Directory Integration
- Asset Upgrades Phase II—Asset Physical Auditor
- Sub-Classes
- Alternate Technician/Customer for ticket
- To be determined by you! Visit our blog to vote!
bigWebLinks Revisited
Last month's newsletter features an article about getting a t-shirt for a link on your website. I apologize for being unclear on the details with this. There is a special link that you will need to put anywhere on your organization's website to qualify for the free t-shirt. Beyond that minor detail, it really is that simple. Add a link = Free customized t-shirt.
